Crake: Romance & Questline Guide
Leader of the mortal rebellion against the Vrakhiri — courageous, charismatic, and slow to trust. Your first meeting involves a knife at your throat, which is fair: he knows exactly what a creature like you can do. Community sources refer to him as both Crake and Marat — the rebel leader and the man. His questline gates Ending 7: Knyazmaker.
His questline, in order
- The Firebrand
- Under Watchful Eyes (optional)
- Taking Back What's Mine (optional)
- Shadows in the Woods
- Where Loyalty Lies
- Old Friends, New Friends (optional)
- What Hunts the Night
- What Moves the Dead
- Who Pulls the Strings
- Distant Shadows (optional)
- A Closer Look (optional — trophy: The Manumit)
- Rise at Dawn
- Fall Before Dusk (ending — trophy: Knyazmaker)
Distant Shadows and A Closer Look are optional — take them; they carry much of his character. Note that reaching Where Loyalty Lies requires raising your infamy (court disruption) first, so Crake's line naturally braids into the court activities.
The Firebrand: start here
Rescue the Miller from Ambrus's prisoner processing camp. This quest is the doorway to the whole rebellion arc — and it double-counts as court disruption, so it is the most time-efficient quest in the mid-game. Do it the moment Briar Sloughs is comfortable.
The mountainside (romance scene)
After Who Pulls the Strings and the optional quests, press him about Ascar — he refuses to talk. Shortly after, Drago tells you where Crake cools off. Catch up to him at the mountainside and offer to train with him. The dialogue that matters:
- May I join you, then?
- I'm worried about you, and I'd like to help.
- I know what this is about.
- He was a manumit once, wasn't he?
- Ascar is your father, isn't he?
- Why?
- Hey. Nothing you say can change the way I see you.
When Crake moves to kiss you, kiss him back to commit to the romance scene.
Crake and the endings
Complete his line through Fall Before Dusk within the 30 days, and Crake and the Manumits storm the castle with you: Knyazmaker — the ending the community most often calls the “true” good ending. Warning: the same quests that earn his trust also reveal the Manumit Hideout's location, which is what Brencis demands in The Turncoat. Know which door you're opening.
